Ocean Park Community Center

The Ocean Park Community Center was a 40,000 SF multi-purpose center for the City of Santa Monica. It was situated in an totally remodeled, one story former industrial building near the center of the city. On the east side of the project is a Woman’s Shelter with a day room, kitchen, 12 bed dormitory and support offices. The internal day room got its natural light from new skylights and was designed to give a non-institutional, home-like feel.

On the south side was a male/female Homeless Day Center for counseling, job referring, personal hygiene, and food distribution. The day center has a large common room with durable bench seating, light wood paneling with brightly colored walls, and high ceilings.

The building also housed many social service agencies including: a women’s health clinic, the Legal Aid Foundation, the Westside Food Bank, physicians’ offices, and offices for six City of Santa Monica agencies.
